The New Year is right around the corner—and the dawning of a New Year is always exciting. It’s an opportunity to turn over a new leaf and to accomplish big things. More than anything else, the New Year represents opportunity and potential. As a dentist, the dawning of the New Year represents a fresh opportunity to take your practice to a new level. Below are four resolutions to help you make 2013 your most profitable year ever:
Stop doing work that your staff can do for you. Be honest – how much time do you spend each week doing work that your staff could be doing for you? For many dentists, this represents a significant amount of time. “It’s easier just to do it myself, rather than teaching someone” is usually the thinking. But investing the time to equip your staff is the right decision… because it frees you up to focus on what you do best. My motto is that if they can legally do it, I train them for it.
Stick to your standards. Most dentists have standards when it comes to managing their team—things like showing up on time, dressing right, treating patients properly, etc. But over time, these standards can start to disappear as you “let things slide.” Eventually, the result is a sloppy, inefficient practice. Make 2013 the year that you bring back your standards!
Deliver a consistent patient experience. Do your patients know what to expect from your practice? Or is it “hit and miss” with regards to patient service? Define your expectations and hold your team accountable… so that your patients can look forward to an excellent experience each and every time they visit your practice.
Spend less time at the office. If you’re like most dentists, you probably spend more time at work than you would like. Make 2013 the year that this stops. Invest the time and energy into training your staff and creating systems that ensure the work gets done without you having to be the one doing it.
